WHY DOES HORSE RIDING THERAPY WORK?

From Research conducted originally by Kunzle and Baumann (1979), and substantiated ongoing:
During one complete movement cycle of the horse, moving in a straight line
(4 steps), the following movements occur in the trunk of the rider.
5 cms Lateral pelvic tilt, following each step of the horse.
8 degrees Pelvic rotation to the right and left
7-8 cms Lateral Displacement of the pelvis
16 degrees Lateral tilt of the lumber spine
19 degrees Rotation of the lumber spine
The rider’s shoulders and pelvis perform a circular movement. The very same movement pattern on the patient’s trunk that two normally functioning legs would create during walking!
Our riders are always keen, enthusiastic and very loyal. They both see and more importantly feel the benefits our riding gives them.
It positively affects their lives – so they come back week after week!
